Is My Facial Serum A Moisturizer Too?

Is My Facial Serum A Moisturizer Too?

If you have added a serum to your beauty routine; good for you! They are the best way to deliver much needed vitamins, minerals and other good-for-your skin compounds below the epidermis to the next layer of skin where they can affect more significant changes to your skin for the better.

You may be wondering if your facial serum can now replace your moisturizer. The answer is no. A serum is thick and feels hydrating when it absorbs, but it has a different molecular structure than moisturizers and your face really needs both.

Why is that? A serum should go on after you have cleansed your face and your pores are clear and open. This allows it to sink deeply into the second layer of skin to deliver the good stuff it needs. Choosing one fortified with anti-aging ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and MSM like in Bonapiel Beauty and Youth Serum is a good choice.

After you have applied the serum, let it set for a minute and then layer on a moisturizer to soften the outer layer of your skin and seal in the serum. A moisturizer forms a protective barrier between your face and the environment, too.

Using a facial serum and a moisturizer will give you more beauty benefits than using only one or the other, especially if you are 40 years old or older. Using both will give you and immediate beauty boost and long-term care that will keep the signs of aging at bay.

Take for instance, Bonapiel Beauty and Youth Serum. When you apply it after cleaning and exfoliating your face, the rich formula of hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and MSM (a natural sulphur that helps strengthen the skin’s support structure) can get deep into your dermis. Once there the hyaluronic acid will help skin retain moisture, the vitamin C will increase circulation and speed healing to damaged cells and the MSM will shore up the support bands there, making your skin smoother and firmer.

Layering on a moisturizer like the Anti-Aging Moisturizer With Matrixyl over that will hydrate the outer layer of skin and give it an immediate boost to lessen the look of fine lines and wrinkles. It will also seal in the serum to let it continue improving the health of skin.  During the daytime, using one with a SPF of 30 or more will have the added benefit of keeping sun exposure from aging your face.

So to sum it all up, use a serum to affect change more slowly over time in the deepest layers of your skin. Use a moisturizer over it for the immediate hydration boost to smooth out wrinkles temporarily until the MSM and vitamin C in the serum has a chance to really kick in.
